PEER REVIEW

The phrase "peer review" is providing the necessary credence to the scholarly papers and research. We need to understand what this really means and the process by which it works.

Peer review is one amongst the gold standards in the field of science. This is a procedure where the scientists/peers thoroughly evaluate the overall quality of the work that is being prepared by other scientists. By conducting a peer review process, the scientists aim at ensuring that their works are coherent, rigorous and uses their past research to determine the quality of the concerned work.

Scientific journals conduct some kind of peer review system. In several cases, it is preferred to be "double blind" peer review. In this particular process, the "double blind" peer review technique is being majorly used. This indicates that the evaluators absolutely do not know the identity of the author(s) and the authors do not know the identity of the evaluators. The overall intention of this system is to ensure that the overall evaluation process is completely non-biased.

In Austin Publishing Group, the new manuscripts are being assigned to at least one editor from the panel of the editors who are participating in the peer review process. The editor accepts the role and then sends the manuscript to the external reviewer for the review. However, the editor takes the final decision after thoroughly going through the external reviewer's comments

The more is the prestige of the journal, the more rigorous and demanding is the peer review process.

Strengths of the peer review process

The major strengths of the peer review process are as follows:

  1. The peer review procedure is considered as a gold standard in the field of science.

  2. The peer review procedure very strongly ensures novelty, rigor and right consistency of the academic outputs given by the scientists and researchers.

  3. There are several rounds of review in a peer review process and thus the flawed ideas are generally eliminated and the great ideas are being improved and strengthened in the process.

  4. Peer reviewing is considered as a crucial technique in removing the bias and personalities from the procedure of judging the scientific knowledge
